Seeking justice

God asks all of us "to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" Micah 6:8. The Justice and Mercy Team seeks to encourage and support members of our church community and beyond to live out the Biblical call to justice and mercy.

Below are some of our more recent projects.

The meetings are open to all. Contact the church office for details.

Refugee Sponsorship

Practical and financial support is given in partnership with the Neighbourhood Church to enfold an Eritrean Refugee family of four: Grandmother (56), Mother (25), & Daughters (7) and (4). This family fled Eritrea and has spent the last several years in an Ethiopian refugee camp. They have started ESL classes and are adjusting to a Canadian culture and colder climate.

Global Village (Fair Trade)

The Justice and Mercy Team encourages Fair Trade practices by sharing information about fairt trade and through active support for our local store, Global Village Nanaimo (open seasonally.)

Relationship Coffee (Direct Sourced)

Christ Community Church uses Relationship Coffee for all of its events. Relationship coffee, tea and sugar may be purchased for personal use. The products are purchased directly from small scale farmers in Africa. This ensures a fair price to the farmers and provides a market for farmers whose operations are too small for the usual coffee and tea brokers.

Please contact Eleanor Sinclair if you would like to make a purchase for personal use.

advocacy & awareness

Throughout the year, the Justice and Mercy Team hosts advocacy and awareness events with material from World Renew and Canadian Food Grains Bank.

Our church community has learned what it's like to be a refugee in Canada, advocated for small scale farming around the world through letter writing campaigns, and raised awareness and funds to combat world hunger.
